Ridesharing Program |
Ridesharing is an important Clean Air Activity...
The Ridesharing Program is designed to match persons to encourage the formation of carpools. This program serves St. Joseph, Elkhart, and Marshall Counties and does not cost a penny to those interested. After registering for the program, you will be matched with other people who live and work near you.
Why enroll in the MACOG Ridesharing Program?
Driving alone is expensive! Estimates show it cost over $6,000 per year to keep one car on the road, including installment loans, insurance costs, maintenance and gas. Splitting this cost with additional people will reduce your costs!
Help reduce air pollution! The National Transportation Board predicts that the annual delays in travel time will increase by 5.6 billion hours in the next 20 years, wasting 7.3 billion gallons of fuel, adding 73 million tons of carbon dioxide to the current emissions levels, and costing $41 billion more per year.
Meet new people! Ridesharing can also serve as a way to meet new friends.
How does the program work?
After enrolling in the Rideshare Program, it is up to the groups to determine who drives and when. After we send you a list of possible carpoolers, you can call them to arrange a ride. From there you can decide when to leave, where to leave from, and even if smoking is permitted or not. Since this program is voluntary, cooperation and courtesy enables everyone to enjoy the ride.
