AmeriCorps Featured Members - Christina Camp
We are pleased to feature Christina Camp, who joined us for an impactful AmeriCorps term with MACOG and the South Bend Bike Garage. Here is what Christina had to say about her service:
As an AmeriCorps member, I not only gained valuable experience in a variety of ways but was able to meaningfully contribute to our region. I was able to assist with the development of a Safe Routes to School Plan, help with Jr Mechanics Classes, and ride the Data Bike to collect data on the four-county region, and more. I gained valuable experience in how to develop surveys, create Arc GIS map layouts, and on how to speak with the public. I am thankful for the AmeriCorps program for giving me the chance to engage in these activities, and I am excited to continue on with my AmeriCorps journey!
Why did you join AmeriCorps?/How did you hear about the AmeriCorps opportunity?
I have served with AmeriCorps in the past and, originally, I found it when I was looking for internship opportunities. I decided to join AmeriCorps because it is a great way to gain experience, serve my community, and gain a valuable education award.
What was one impactful project, memory, or experience from your term of service?
As part of my service, I was excited to be able to gain my Indiana Accredited Horticulture certificate. Studying for the exam was difficult but rewarding. I am hopeful that an experience like this will be beneficial to a future career.
What is next for you professionally?
I am continuing my AmeriCorps journey for another year. After, I plan to apply for a Master's degree in Public Affairs. The AmeriCorps education award is incredibly helpful in allowing me to continue my education. I will also continue to look for work opportunities in the sustainability field.
Thank you, Christina, for your service!
